βIs that sound what I think it is?" I thought to myself. "No, surely not..." But as I greeted the small creature "Oh, hello," my heart sank and soared at the same time. Eleven. There would be eleven of them now.
I stared into the amber eyes of this orange kitten who'd found its way to our home, somehow. I couldn't help but imagine little rescue signs leading this little creature to me. Ones that were invisible to humans, but very visible to domesticated animals. They said something like "Rescue, this way" with a big arrow. I chuckled at the thought.
Five years ago, when we first settled here, our family consisted of three cats, a dog, and a lizard. Now, at least temporarily, we were a bustling menagerie of eleven cats, two dogs, and our ever-resilient lizard. Amid the inevitable chaos and flurry of fur, a unique warmth envelops our home - the kind only a house brimming with pets can exude. It's a feeling that's irreplaceable, chaotic yet comforting.
P.S. She clearly fits in well with us, any book lover will.
